Some things have changed, some things remain the same.
Here's my take on the poem remix trend, inspired by Jennae Cecelia’s I Met My Younger Self for Coffee. ❤ Hindi na ako marunong mag sulat lol, but just like the writer, I also loved looking back on my younger self and how she was so brave, happy, and true.
---
I met my younger self for coffee at the airport.
She was early; I was late.
She was holding a nearly empty cup of hot Americano,
trying to sip slowly so she could wait for me in the café.
I took her to the airport lounge
so I could have my green tea,
and she could have another cup of coffee if she wanted to.
She was wearing a matching black Adidas tracksuit for her flight.
I still had on something matchy and black—
pants, of course, for the overnight flight.
I apologized for being late.
She just smiled, and you felt it's sincere,
as if she had only been waiting for five minutes.
We talked about our travel plans.
While she was filming and uploading raw IG Stories in real time,
taking pictures with a big camera for her blog,
I just took a five-second clip of us sipping our drinks (for my Reels).
She wasn’t worried about angles or edits. I wish I lived like that.
For this trip, she was staying in a bunk-bed dorm in Hongdae
that cost her less than PHP 1,000 a night—
but the restrooms were shared.
I told her I had found a cozy Airbnb in Seongsu
that would make me feel like I lived there.
She planned to stay three nights in Jeju and Busan.
I told her I was heading outside of Seoul for this trip, too.
And while in Seoul,
she wanted to visit the filming locations of her favorite Kdramas,
using printed Instax photos as her guide.
I said I’d be catching a Kpop concert or two in the city.
The PA system announced the boarding of her flight,
so I told her she’d better hurry.
She tightened her backpack straps,
still holding up her recording phone,
and waved—
"See you in Seoul!"
I watched her disappear into the crowd,
a younger version of me,
chasing memories she doesn’t yet know will last forever.
I finished my tea,
rolled my carry-on luggage,
and whispered to no one in particular—
"See you in Seoul… and Jeonju, and Daegu, and Andong."
