Museo Sorsogon | Things To Do in Sorsogon City

One of my favorite chill stops during travels is going to a museum. Aside from resting from the hustle and bustle of touring, and avoiding the intense heat that is almost a year-round thing in the Philippines, I also get snippets of the history and culture of the place I am visiting. It gives my trip a bit of depth.

On our last day in Bicol's Sorsogon City, our group was able to visit the Museo Sorsogon. A cool fact about this fairly new history, culture, and heritage hub is that once upon a time it was Sorsogon's century-old provincial jail and courthouse---a symbol of the province's justice system.

Museo Sorsogon is a project of Sorsogon's Governor Chiz Escudero with the Department of Public Works and Highways in 2019, when inmates were transferred to a new penitentiary. Aside from interestingly preserving the penitentiary's structure, artifacts on loan from National Museum and Sorsogonanons are also on display.

Favorite part of the museum is this mirror corner that replicates Sorsogon's world record title for most number of pantomina dancers in one venue. Ruth, Jacque and I tried the effect by dancing Super Tuna, hehehe.

At the back of the museum, they also have a 6-tier amphitheater for performances and events. I read that they also have a cafe (Kape-Terya and Kape-Tolyo) and souvenir shop selling locally-made products such as pili beauty products, handicrafts and accessories, and some snacks, although I wasn't able to see them anymore.

Entrance to Museo Sorsogon is at Php 20/head.

Museo Sorsogon's opening hours is at 8:30am to 11:30pm and 1:00pm - 4:30pm on Mondays, 8:30am to 11:30pm on Tuesdays, and 8:30am to 4:30pm during Wednesdays to Fridays. They are closed during weekends and holidays.
