You Are Okay!

In my theater club when I was still in school, I was part of the set design committee where we spend sleepless nights creating dioramas, then turning these model units into reality. There was a play where I had to revise the diorama gazillion times because our set design head was never satisfied.

So I focus on my work in a corner and fix everything, go back to my head to ask if everything's okay after revising details from his nasty comments. I didn't know I had a breaking point till that day, I was usually extra patient. But on my nth revision, I started crying in front of my head when I did everything and he still didn't like my work again. Then he softened and hugged me and said "Inaantay ko lang to.." I don't know how you can test a person by being mean to him/her, really, coz what's the point? All along my work is already okay, but my leader wasn't "satisfied" till I shed tears... to make it memorable? To learn a lesson? Hay!

Yesterday's OOTD: Track pants and sweater from Penshoppe with the words "Follow No Crowd":

Looking back, I think that's my only bullied experience, by being a freshman in an organization I badly wanted to belong. I cannot imagine the day-to-day life of kids bullied by peers day in and out for reasons like "she's weird" or "he's different".

But aren't we all?

That's why I admire brands that currently hold anti-bullying campaigns and ones that celebrate individuality. I recently went to two of them.....

1) Belle De Jour Celebrates Individuality!

Just last Saturday, I went to Belle De Jour's 2018 planner launch at the Shangri-la Mall East Wing. It's my first event with BDJ, but I've heard a lot of good things about their get-togethers and campaigns. For this coming year, BDJ planner highlights our uniqueness with the theme "Dare To Be You"!

Ashley and I were holding our BDJ leather planners with the words "I am a beauty of one", while Ava is holding the 2018 Navi Journal: Your Life Navigator (the planner for the wanderlust souls).

It's the first day of the launch, and the venue was packed!!!

Aside from these classics, other journals and planners from Viviamo! Inc. include the Everything is Possible Planner, Focus Journal, and the newest addition to the collection, the Essentials notebook, crafted for the bullet journaling enthusiasts.

What I got:

The price list, or you can check them out at www.ilovebdj.com.

With less than 2 months till the new year, the BDJ launch made sure that participants will get the inspiration and right tools in achieving their #2018Goals. They organized several talks with different #GoalGurus, and the topics range from bullet journaling, finance, fashion, fitness and health, and how to achieve your travel goals.

I was able to attend the #TravelGoals talk by female backpacker and blogger Kezia Guerrero. Learned so much and was so inspired from her talk!

Overall, Belle De Jour goes beyond keeping our lives organized through their planners and journals. They celebrate the modern Filipinas by being our partner in realizing our dreams and goals in all aspects of our lives. ❤

2) Penshoppe Dares You to be Different!

Penshoppe is more forward when it comes to their stand against bullying. In their newest campaign aptly named #IAmDifferent, the brand empowers their market -- aka today's youth -- to love their uniqueness.

I went to the launch of this campaign last night at the BGC Arts Center. The shirts are simple but gets the point across. Each piece of clothing also has a unique serial number at the back to indicate that what you have is one of a kind (just like you!).

"Being different is something to celebrate and be proud of, that's why Penshoppe is truly committed to empowering the youth to embrace their individuality," says Jeff Bascon, Penshoppe's brand director.

"Our society, especially, today's youth, faces the harsh reality of bullying just because we may look or act differently from others. Penshoppe believes that there is a need for us to use our voices and influence everyone to take a stand against bullying," he added.

The event is supported by all their local and international brand ambassadors. Bella Hadid, Lucky Blue Smith, Mario Maurer, Kaia Gerber, and Sandara Park are all seen wearing "Different is Good" and "I Am Different" Penshoppe shirts.

Club Penshoppe member Ronnie Alonte also expresses his stand against bullying:

And of course, me and my friends in social media were there to rally AGAINST bullying. I am also there to celebrate YOUR uniqueness, that beauty is in diversity, because we are all made different. I really believe in that, just look for that unique charm that you own, be more forgiving of your flaws, and you will live your life the best way possible for you. Please know that I am always rooting for you.

Proceeds from these shirts will benefit the development of a module that discourages bullying and encourages acceptance in public school children, in partnership with Teach for the Philippines.
