Pinocchio Children's Musical for the Kids and Kids at Heart
I've been reviving a lot of old interests the past weeks, and one of them is theater (musicals!)--which I tried to rekindle by listening to Avenue Q songs via Deezer, hehe. That's why I got so excited when they invited us for Repertory Philippines' press preview of Pinocchio. Finally! An actual stage play again since my broadway experience.
In celebration of its 22 years of producing well-loved musicals for children of all ages, Repertory Philippines Theater for Young Audiences proudly announces the staging of the well-loved tale of a wooden puppet whose nose grew when he told a lie. Pinocchio, originally written by Carlo Collodi in 1881, has been one of the most famous stories in children’s literature and one of the most adapted--with Disney as perhaps the most popular.
Do not expect a Jiminy Cricket in this version though, this play is a current adaptation of Jim Eiler's, with music also by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy for the Prince Street Players, Ltd. BUT do expect to feel like you're actually in Italy, with the beautiful set design, and the opening song which caused major LSS for me till now ("Buon Giorno!"). I like that they're very interactive with the viewers with their little Q&A and audience participation before actually serving the "main dish" (the plot).
Aside from the set, the costumes are also a visual treat. They transitioned into several scenes smoothly, and every time the backdrop captured the setting and the mood of the story. But of course, the storyline and songs are double roller coasters of fun and emotional. The actors are all great--especially Pinocchio. Nakakaimpress how these young people are so talented in acting, singing, and dancing!
Pinocchio's boyish longings lead him away from his father and on an adventure unlike any other.
You'll enjoy this scene's choreography!
The Blue Fairy promises Pinocchio that if he always obeys his father, someday he would become a real boy.
Pinocchio, a life-sized puppet created by the caring puppet maker Geppetto.
A vibrant cast! Enjoy a night with your kids in a fun production where they will also value school, honesty, and the unconditional love of a parent.
