Freeway Collaborates with Bienvenido Lumbera
Last Tuesday, The Row in Glorietta 1 witnessed another tribute to a living treasured National Artist Mr. Bienvenido Lumbera through a collaboration with Freeway.
I LOVE this vibrant collection, the mosaic style printed in tees, dresses, blouses, and even an iPod case. The best part is the lines from Mr. Lumbera's poetry added to each piece... Making it a wearable art that you'll love to own and collect:
Freeway's Fall 2014 Collection:
Early bird for the program! (First time! Haha!).
Hosted by the colorful Ms. Tessa Prieto Valdes, the event started with a video montage of Lumbera’s life and works which set the mood and psyched the audience to know the featured National Artist even more.
As front act, the guests were treated to a lovely song number performed by an up-and-coming artist, Lirah Bermudez where she rendered a couple of Beatles and The Carpenter songs- a personal request of Lumbera’s family.
Mr. Lumbera reading the lines of his poem from the Freeway dresses:
We were also entertained by Sir Lumbera's favorite artist: Rapper Gloc9! To Sir Lumbera, Gloc9 is a modern poet, who tackles national issues.
After the musical treat, the audience was treated to candid stories from the panel of Special Guests: Vim Nadera, Director of Philippine High School for the Arts who gave his professional views on art and literature:
Q&A:
Sir Bienvenido Lumbera himself, who shared with us a hearty and enlightening look at his life and works.
In line with the artistic and nationalistic theme of the event, the night was capped off with the presentation of the winners of the recently held Art Bag Design Contest. Their winning designs, Batok by Elito Job Mirasol and Tanglaw by Felicidad Plata, are now available in Freeway Stores nationwide! Congrats!
It was a night to remember, filled with funny anecdotes, warm memories and educational insights, all in the spirit of celebrating Filipino Culture and Talent. It was also a special night for me as this was also my LAST event coverage for my MadTV segment On-The-Scene! Thank you Freeway, especially to Ms. Dian, for accommodating my team! And of course, a BIG thanks to my segment producer Rob, I had a blast working with you!
